Whilst our volunteer editors will do their best to ensure our events listings are as up to date and accurate as possible; with the fast pace of how things are changing, it is inevitable that some will slip through the net. If you are planning on travelling for larger events, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly to avoid disappointment. We are putting in place new measures to give event organisers a friendly reminder to see if they wish to remove cancelled events, so we're sorry if it looks a bit bare in here :(

Events this Month

Nature, Natter and Nibbles, 1st March 2024, 10:30 to 12:00 at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre (1.4 miles)
A peaceful stroll through the wonders of nature, with tea, biscuits and good company.

Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre is set on a lovely, hidden nature reserve tucked away behind Didcot Power station. With meadows, ponds and woodland there is always something to see from spring snowdrops to autumn colour, wary foxes to dancing dragonflies - we even have our own new demonstration wildlife garden!

Join our learning volunteers for a peaceful, gentle stroll around the reserve, stopping to appreciate whatever takes your fancy. Visit the bird hide, peep into the ponds, pinch a raspberry in the vegetable garden and go blackberrying in autumn. Hot drinks and biscuits are provided, along with good company and conversation. The sessions are relaxed and informal with the option of a shorter route if you prefer. Come and soak up the nature!

The centre is accessible by car, bike and public transport (buses to Milton Park, and trains to Didcot Parkway with a regular bus link). You are welcome to bring your lunch to enjoy in the picnic area after the event.

We are committed to keeping our visitors, staff and volunteers safe. Please DO NOT attend if you are unwell, or testing positive for an infectious illness, such as COVID-19. Your consideration is hugely appreciated.

An immersive day of outdoor learning at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre for our local home educating community.

Use all your senses to explore the habitats on our nature reserve, and find out how the animals' senses are adapted to help them survive. Feel your way along with the moles, smell like a badger, see with the eyes of a blue tit, join a tasting session in the garden (and help us plant some more veg seeds for summer!), and lots more sensory fun. Don't forget to leave time to build a den in the woods too!

This event is suitable for children aged 4-11 years with an accompanying adult. There will be a range of activities with links across the curriculum, and a lovely chance to meet other local home educating families in a beautiful outdoor setting. We also have 2 classrooms and a wood stove in the education centre to warm up if it's chilly. Most activities will be self-led, with the chance to sign up for a led workshop with our learning team on arrival. (We run home educators' days on a bimonthly basis, keep an eye on the website for more dates or ask to join our mailing list.)

We are committed to keeping our visitors, staff and volunteers safe. Please DO NOT attend if you or your child are unwell, or testing positive for an infectious illness, such as COVID-19. Your consideration is hugely appreciated.

Learn to identify the birds in your garden and local area in this course for adults at Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre.
Perhaps you have problems telling your great tit from your coal tit? Maybe female chaffinches look a bit like sparrows? We will help you sort out species confusion and sharpen up your bird ID skills! You'll be learning to identify your local birds by song as well as sight.

The day will start with a brief session indoors covering the basics, then aim to spend most of the session out on the nature reserve. We will walk around the reserve, visiting likely spots including our bird hide, and honing your skills. The ground is mostly flat but may be uneven and is likely to be muddy and wet in places at this time of year.

We have a few pairs of binoculars to lend, but if you have some please bring them.

Hot drinks and biscuits provided.

To book, please phone 01235 862024 or visit https://www.bbowt.org.uk/events/2024-03-09-bird-watching-beginners-adult-course-didcot-saturday-9-march
